Blog Contest/Pink Wine Stop Give Away

Recently, my friend Anna sent me this post on Facebook:  Hey Jennifer- I have a question I think you could probably answer... Ava's beloved "blankie" is (more than) ready to be "retired"... it is a knit blanket a friend made her 6 years ago and I need some way to "memorialize" it so that we don't just throw it out... do you know of any way to frame it? Keep it? Display it? Something that does NOT include "using" it :) It is frayed and has been "refurbished" too many times... time to say Good Night to blankie... but what do I do with it!?!?!!

Here are pictures of Ava's blanket.  Anna may be interested in having the winner turn Ava's blanket into their winning idea!

I decided it would be great fun to have a contest. Please comment with your ideas on what Anna should do with Ava's blanket. Please be sure to leave your email address too along with your comment. Anna will pick the idea she likes best, and the person who submitted the winning idea will win one of my pink antique wine stops like the one pictured below! I will contact the winner by email and collect your information to send you the wine stop.  Contest ends April 2, 2011.

How about recovering a little stool in Ava's room or make a pillow for her bed.

I think making a stuffed teddy bear would be a great thing. Or any other stuffed animal she may like. That way it can be kept and a hand me down for years to come.

My idea would to use it as a background in a shadow box type of frame and then perhaps add her picture and something that she also treasured......It could also have some vintage ribbons or small flowers added that would enhance it..........or even - depending on the frame - a favorite small stuffed animal would add to it. Childhood memories can be so awesome and need to be kept alive for others to enjoy. It could also just be framed in a regular frame with her picture.......Good luck to you............I enjoy your website....I am 80 years old and still make wonderful and one of a kind items..Hugs to you

This is totally precious!!

How about a quilted memory ornament. She could hang it on her Christmas tree every year as a little treasure from her childhood. :-)

I'm afraid you're going to wish you had alot more blankie for all these wonderful ideas. Good Luck!

I would make a hanky and put lace around the outside and save it for her wedding day. Something old and something for comfort! Thank you for entering my giveaway, good luck! thepolkadotcloset@live.com

Well I am not much help because I let my kids use their blankies for as long as they wanted, ragged and all, ha! I think maybe creating another blanket with the remnents of this one. But, I sure do love Carol's idea!

Hugs,

I would use it to create a pillow covering. Get a plain, decorative-type throw pillow from a craft store and attach/sew the blanket to one side of the pillow. It can be kept on the bed or any place you like!

Well I have a few ideas one is put a small square in a clear necklace holder, or decoupage it to a small night stand either on the drawer fronts with some of jennifers amazing pulls or on the top of it, or and this is my favorite and I am having one made now a twin size blanket for my senior I have been saving his old sweatshirts/tea shirts and baby clothing and a local lady cuts them up and sews them into an awesome keepsake! I can post a pic when I pick it up this weekend. Good luck and let me know if u need help. Kelly

I have two ideas first decoupage it on the drawer fronts of a night stand then add some of jennifers amazing pulls or my favorite idea is to save it and start saving old favorite clothing or blankets and have a memory quilt made I am having one made as a present for my Senior as a grad present I have been saving his old stuff for about 10 years. I pick it up this weekend and I will post a picture soooooo cool and it is sort of the story of their childhood!

I don't know how old the child is thats giving up the blanket but I would take the material part and make a tooth fairy pillow and layer it with the crochet part over the top, or decorated the top of a box to save momento's in, or make a pin cushion with it for her to use forever and ever. Sorry can't think of only one idea. LOL
Have a nice weekend Kath'

Thank you to all of you for your wonderful comments and creative ideas. This was a very tough decision, but Anna and Ava have decided that Mrs. Charlotte is the winner! If possible, Anna would like to hire you to sew Ava's blanket into a teddy bear! I will be contacting you for your address to mail your wine stop, and I will give you Anna's contact information as well so she can discuss exactly what she wants! Thank you so much again to each of you for making my first blog give away a great success! xoxo Jennifer, Bella Lucille

Thank you so much for choosing my suggestion of making Ava'a Blankie into a Teddy Bear. And thank you for allowing me to be the one to make the Teddy Bear for Anna and Ava. I am looking forward to getting started. I will take very good care of Ava's blankie and make her a Teddy Bear she will be able to share with her children in the future. This is such an honor.
